Commenting Rules of Engagement
We won’t remove your comment just because we don’t like it. This is your forum, and you deserve to be heard. But we do have a few simple rules that we’ll apply out of respect for others visiting Bradford Cycling Campaign’s group, or who might be mentioned on our Facebook page.
Removal of posts
We reserve the right to delete posts that violate these principles and guidelines, and to block users who repeatedly violate the principles, or otherwise abuse the forum.
No malicious name-calling
If you don’t like another user’s comment, say so. If you have something to say to Bradford Council for example, by all means do. Just try to use the same courtesy and language you’d expect in a face-to-face public setting. A joke to one person can cause real offence to another.
We have to consider third parties, such as formal organisations who we may want to do campaign work with and people we may highlight in our posts might not like being insulted. They didn’t ask for abuse, so we don’t feel obligated to let others serve it up to them from our Facebook group.
Avoid profanity
We are trying to raise the profile of the Bradford Cycling Campaign, in order to work with official public bodies like the council and also the press. We could have a debate on the definition of “profanity”, but please use your common sense a guide.
Swearing and language that may offend is best avoided and may lead to post being removed and repeat offending users being blocked.
Just because you’re not offended by swearing, it doesn’t mean that others aren’t. We don’t want to frighten away or offend people who have a lot to contribute to the campaign.
Racist, sexist or homophobic language in particular won’t be tolerated.
No irrelevant advertising or spam
“Spam,” whether to advertise something not relevant or simply repeat any message multiple times on our Facebook wall is not allowed. If in doubt, message an admin.
